5 maintenance tips that double panel lifespan
Solar panels are remarkably low-maintenance — they have no moving parts, and most Tier-1 panels are designed to withstand hail, wind and extreme temperatures for decades. But "low-maintenance" does not mean "no-maintenance."
These five habits can meaningfully extend the life of your system and keep it running at peak output.
1. Clean your panels regularly
Dust, pollen, bird droppings and pollution residue build up on the glass surface over time, blocking sunlight. In dusty regions like Rajasthan or Gujarat, soiling can reduce output by 15–25% between cleanings.
How often? Every 2–4 weeks in dusty areas, every 2–3 months in cleaner urban environments.
How? Use a soft brush or squeegee with plain water. Avoid abrasive cleaners, high-pressure hoses, and never walk on the panels. If your panels are hard to reach, hire a professional cleaning service — it costs ₹500–₹1,000 per visit and pays for itself in recovered output.
